Oklahoma Sooners Solid Fave to Win BCS

Jun 30, 2011 Posted Under: Betting News

The college football odds to win this upcoming season’s BCS Championship point to the Oklahoma Sooners as a somewhat surprising solid favorite.  The Sooners are +375 on the board to break the Southeastern Conference’s string of BCS title victories.  The SEC has won the past five BCS Championships.  In fact, the SEC has taken home seven of the twelve BCS Championship trophies.

Oklahoma won the title in 998 and behind the arm of quarterback Landry Jones, a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate, football handicappers are flocking to the Sooners to win their second BCS title.  But if the Sooners are going to win the championship, they’re going to have to get over the loss of senior linebacker Austin Box who was found dead on May this year.  Oklahoma fans are expecting Coach Bob Stoops to motivate his troops in Box’s name.

Alabama, the 009 BCS Championship winner, is a strong second choice at +500 to continue the Southeastern Conference’s streak.  Coach Nick Saban will have some pieces to work with.  Junior running back Trent Richardson and senior wide receiver Marquis Maze both return on offense while three seniors and four juniors return to the usually stout Tide defense.

Only one other team is going off at single-digits to take home the crystal trophy this season, the Florida State Seminoles.  Although losing three starters on offense, including QB Christian Ponder, and three on defense, the Seminoles face a light ACC Conference schedule this season with usual ACC powerhouse Virginia Tech expected to have a somewhat down year.  The Seminoles are at +900 to win the title.

The two 00 BCS Championship participants, the Auburn Tigers and the Oregon Ducks, are getting no respect on the board.  Auburn, because Heisman Trophy winning QB Cam Newton jumped to the NFL, is at +7500 to repeat as BCS Champions.  Oregon is at a more respectable +000 to win the trophy that eluded them last season.

Check out the teams going off at up to +000 to win this season’s BCS Championship.
