Gonzalez also homered twice during Tuesdays 11-5 win over Texas, giving him five homers in three games after hitting only one in his previous 181 at-bats.

“I hit them in spurts, Gonzalez said of his recent power surge. Everybody knows that. When I have a good swing, it’s just a feeling you have and you hit them in bunches.’’ Gonzalez is now hitting .348 with 23 home runs and 102 RBI in his first season with Boston.

San Diego Padres closers  status remains the same as it was prior to the July 31 nonwaiver trading deadline, hes staying put.

The San Francisco Giants filed a waiver claim for Bell earlier this week but were unable to reach an agreement before Fridays deadline, according to SI.com.

The Giants, who are missing closer due to a sore elbow, had hoped to strengthen the back end of their bullpen with the acquisition of Bell.
