Northumberland Plate Odds Preview and Tips

The Northumberland Plate odds have Overturn as favourite to repeat his win in this traditional handicap at Newcastle.

20 runners are going to post for this summer staple over two miles.

11/2 Overturn, 6/1 Harlestone Times, Activate, 8/1 Investissiment, Deavuille Flyer, 12/1 Simenon, Moyenne Corniche

Overturn, trained by Donald McCain took this prize in hugely impressive fashion a year ago, carrying 8st 7lbs and being relatively unfancied. This time he has more than a stone extra to carry as top weight, yet hes likely to be sent off as favourite, following his facile Chester Cup victory. That is allied to being a high class hurdler. Its difficult to know whether or not the handicapper has caught up with him yet.

Second favourite Harlestone Times is stepping up in distance after good performances in mile and a quarter and mile and a half handicaps. However, there have to be concerns he can last this distance looking at his breeding.  Activate looks progressive after nice handicap wins in smaller races of this distance at York and Haydock, and he may yet be ahead of the handicapper still judging by some of the form lines from that race.

Investissement, trained by John Gosden, came back from a spell hurdling with an excellent handicap win at long odds in Goodwood, and is another with enigmatic potential in that hes difficult to assess, where as Deauville Flyer appears to have reached his right handicap mark.

Activate has winning form franked by others and looks better value at a lower weight than Overturn.  Back Activate to win at 6/1 with Betfred by using our link and you can claim a bet of up to £50.
