Golf: The Heritage Tips
This week the PGA Tours heads to Carolina for The Heritage and our expert Bruce Robertson gives us the lowdown on who should be in the mix in the final round of play.
Course: Harbour Towns Golf Links
Location: Hilton Head, Carolina
Par: 71
The PGA Tour heads to Hilton Head, with the famous lighthouse, and a strong field with 7 of the world’s top 20 teeing it up. The course is an American-style seaside links with very small greens. Iron play is therefore at a premium this week in order to hit the small targets which are much easier to read and putt on than most courses on The Tour.
The course is known as a ‘course specialist’ track, with 5 players having had two place finishes in the last 5 years.
No 1 Aaron Baddeley 20/1
Known as ‘dressed’, Baddeley is a past champion here . He has also had 2 other top ten finishes, so he clearly plays likes the course and arrives in top form. He won The Northern Trust Open this year, and was fourth in Houston. His all round game has improved significantly, and I feel he has a great opportunity this week.
No 2 Bo Van Pelt 40/1
I think Bo is a very under-rated player on The PGA Tour. This is due to his lack of wins in the past but he was always playing consistently well and has now made the break through. Prominent, unlike many of his countrymen, on the leaderboard at The Masters means he will arrive in good shape. Course form is encouraging with a third and thirteenth in the last 2 years. Great each way prospect.
No 3 Webb Simpson 50/1
Became a father for the first time in Februay which has co-incided with some encouraging form. 2 top tens in his last five events, one of which he really should have secured a victory. He is 21st on tour for greens in regulation, and 6th for birdies. Fourteenth here in 2010, this could be the ideal venue and time for Webb to grab his first tour win.
No 4 Jim Furyk 16/1
I am going to have to include Furyk in my staking plan as there has been a sign of the form that won him the Fed-Ex millions last year. A slow start to the year has turned in to 3 top 25 finishes, including The Masters. He is the defending champion and is almost guaranteed to play well at Hilton Head.
