Jaromir Jagr Could Return To Penguins
From the moment former Pittsburgh Penguins legend Jaromir Jagr played his last game in the NHL and took his talents to play for the KHL’s Avangard Omsk in Russia people have wondered when he’d once again play in the NHL and come back to North America.
Well, the wait for Jagr’s NHL return might be over next season. After some speculation he might come back and play for the Edmonton Oilers the past couple of seasons, Jagr could very well make a return not only to the NHL but to the team of his glory days, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
During his 17 year NHL career Jagr made stops in Washington and New York with the Rangers after making a name and career for himself in Pittsburgh but Pittsburgh will always be the team associated with Jagr. In his 17 seasons Jagr scored 1,599 points; 646 of those being goals.
His play in Russia hasn’t diminished where he’s scored 66 goals and 146 points in three seasons. The fact that his scoring prowess hasn’t slipped is the main reason why Jagr’s return to the NHL is always being speculated about. NHL Fans, coaches, players, and general managers would welcome a Jagr return.
One GM in particular is Penguins GM Ray Shero as rumors have the Penguins interested in bringing back the 39 yearold forward back to the organization where he became a dominating force teaming up with Mario Lemieux.
Jagr right now is more focused on helping the Czech Republic win backtoback World Championships but was still able to comment on a return to the NHL saying: “It’s too early for me, I don’t really know what I want to do next year. I don’t know where I want to play. Right now I just want to concentrate for this tournament, it’s not going to be more than one week. Then I have to make a decision.”
Recent success of 40 yearolds such as Nicklas Lidstrom and Teemu Selanne are reasons to think why Jagr could still make an impact in the NHL. Not too mention he’d have an easier time continuing to score goals if he were to be teamed up on a line with either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin.
