Poker Popularity Helps 888 to Increase Revenue

Online poker is still proving to be as popular as ever with 888 recording a 29% rise in second quarter revenue for the year compared to this time last year. The increase in revenue was strong across all areas but there was a noticeable boom in the poker arena. This has been attributed to the demise of Absolute Poker and Full Tilt Poker with many players at these sites migrating to new homes.Online poker saw a 58% increase in revenue from this time last year to £8m. The online casino might not have been as emphatic in its growth but still recorded an impressive 34% rise in revenue to £22m. So even though the poker is growing at the fastest rate right now the online casino continues to draw in the bulk amount of revenue.888 Deputy Chairman, Brian Mattingley, said “While the excellent figures reported today give the board confidence of future growth, the second half will be impacted by our need to invest in regulating markets.”The number of members signing up has also been encouraging. 888 reported that the number of players playing poker or at the online casino had more than doubled since the previous year to 342,000. The number of registered accounts at 888 had also risen by 21% to 9.6 million at the end of June, 2011.These latest findings are just the remedy that 888 needed after it failed in its bid to acquire Ladbrokes and also after the departure of Chief Executive Gigi Levy. Things have firmly turned around for 888.Visit the 888.com website here
