Irishman Still Fighting To Be 2011 WSOP Champion
The eyes of Ireland are fixated firmly on a young Irish poker player who is causing a stir in Las Vegas as he remains in the mix to win the $8.7m 2011 World Series of Poker title.Eoghan O’Dea, 26 years old, comes from Dalkey in Dublin and currently lies in 2nd place at the 2011 WSOP Main Event as the tournament enters a hiatus before the November Nine final table where the remaining 9 players will battle to be crowned the 2011 WSOP Champion.Martin Staszko from Czech Republic currently leads the field with 40,175,000 chips going into the November Nine. O’Dea is only just over 6 million chips behind in 2nd place. Matt Gianetti is in 3rd place whilst online poker prodigy Phil Collins and WSOP bracelet holder Ben Lamb are in 4th and 5th respectively. Badih Bounahra, Pius Heinz, Anton Makievskiy and Sam Holden make up the remaining players who will contest the final table of the 2011 WSOP Main Event in November.O’Dea might not have be a household name yet but his family knows its way around the WSOP Main Event. O’Dea’s father qualified for two WSOP Main Event final tables during his career and now Eoghan is looking to carve his own name in the WSOP history books by going one step further and taking home the WSOP title.The Irish youngster is not fazed by the task ahead and he certainly knows where his priorities lie “When I was really young, it was definitely the bracelet. But now, it’s about the money. It’s a dream to win this event.”O’Dea has already secured 5 WSOP cashes and has finished as a runner up on the World Poker Tour. There is still a long way to go but with his 33,925,000 chips he is firmly in the driving seats and enters the November Nine as one of the favourites.
